Overview

The 3 days takes you to the short trails Mount Elgon. Mount Elgon is said to be the 4th highest in East Africa standing at 4,321m high, and it’s an extinct volcano with the main activity of hiking and is Uganda and Kenya. The mountain has a number of trails which hikers use to hike up the top.  It is slightly tricky to climb to the top (Wagagai peak), and hence hikers are expected to be fit enough.

Tour Plan

Day 1 | Budadiri to Sasa camp - 2,900m.

Arrival at Budadiri Gate for registration, briefing, meet the ranger guides, porters, and the cook. You will then  drive to the starting point in Bumasola Village. You will hike through the wall of life, skipping the Sasa Camp, Sasa Patrol Camp and traverse to Mude Camp at Elevation of 3500M asl for our first night. This hike takes approximately 6-7 hours depending on how you find it, and your strength level.

Day 2 | Sasa camp to Mude camp - 3.500m.

Early in the morning after breakfast, you will embark on a hike to the summit, passing through Jackson Pool, Jackson Peak and a view of Jackson table. The views here are stunning. You will then Proceed to the Wagagai Peak, walking along the Caldera rim. It's 9km going to the peak and 9km returning - a total of 18km. After touring, you will descend down to your base camp for the 2nd night.

Day 3 | Mude camp to Wagagai peak - 4321m.

Early morning breakfast, embark on a hike of about 37km from Mude Camp to Tutum Cave for the 3rd night. It’s a long distance hike of around 7-8hours.

Day 4 | Mude camp - Budadiri.

After early morning breakfast, you will set off from Tutum Cave to Kapkwai Exploration Center which is the Sipi trailhead. It's approximately 4 hours walk covering 11km. It’s at Kapkwai where the transfer back you to your guesthouse or Sipi village. This marks the end of your 4 days mountain experience.
