Lake Mburo

Home to the largest population of zebras in Uganda.

Lake Mburo National Park is 370 km sq with an altitude of 1,220m – 1,828m above sea level. It is small in comparison with many other East African Savannah parks but with its rich variety of habitats; such as; dry hillsides, rocky outcrops, bushy thickets, open and wooded savannah, forest, lakes and swamps, it is home to a surprising diversity of plants and animals.

Lake Mburo is the only park in Uganda with eland, impala and klipspringer. It is also home to the largest population of zebra in Uganda estimated at about 5,000 and probably contains the highest concentration of leopard found anywhere in Uganda.  Other animals you can find include; giraffes, buffalos, oribi, Defassa water bucks, hippos, hyena, topi and reed buck, rare sitatunga antelope, warthogs. On night game drives you can spot genet, bush pigs and white-tailed mongoose

With the parks surface comprising of 20% Wetland habitats – both seasonally flooded and permanent swamps. it is one of Uganda’s top 3 bird watching sites with 350 recorded species.  You can be able to spot some water birds on a boat ride such as the mighty blue-headed coucal and papyrus gonolek, Shoebill, Red-faced Barbet, Yellow-rumped tinkerbird, African finfoot, Greater painted-snipe, Hairy-breasted barbet, Papyrus yellow warbler, Tabora cisticola, Brown-chested lapwing, African fish eagles among others.

Activities that you can do in the park; Game drives, bird watching, nature walks, boat rides, horse riding, bike safaris in and around the park, visit a cattle family.
